Once the storm passed, our family needed considerable time to heal. While we were grateful that the Lord had calmed the storm, the issues that arose from it left us feeling more than a little angry. It is important to understand that when emotions run high, it is easy to lose sight of the spiritual aspect of warfare. During this time, we struggled and found ourselves murmuring and complaining about the losses we had endured.
I am grateful that God has remained faithful and that His grace has covered us, flaws and all. After coming out of an abusive childhood, it is easy to forget that God is good and that His thoughts toward us are also good. Now that we have had time to reflect, it is clear how the enemy gained a foothold in our lives. Our identity in Christ is of utmost importance. We can never settle for the belief that we are done; we must continue to strengthen our relationship through the Written Word. Even Jesus, the Son of God, faced challenges in the wilderness. Remember that you are in good company; train your mind to live as adopted children of God.
If You Are
And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, “’He will command his angels concerning you,’ and “’On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’” Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “’You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’” (Mat 4:3-10 ESV)
“For you didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God; and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.” (Rom 8:15-17 WEB) "Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me." (Psa 51:10 WEB)
